Under the able guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor GEHU – Prof (Dr.) Sanjay Jasola, the Department of Fashion Design – GEHU got a unique opportunity to design the Convocation Attires for the state of Uttarakhand. Amongst many other Universities of repute from the state and after two rounds of presentations on the same, the lucky day was marked on the 5th February 2018 where the Attires were presented in front of the Dignitaries – Minister for Higher Education of state, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat ji; Chief Secretary (Higher Education), Mr. Ashok Kumar; Chief Additional Secretary, Dr. Ranbir Singh; Director Education, Dr. Savita Mohan, Vice Chancellors of various Universities – Dr. Sanjay Jasola (GEHU), Dr. Vijay Dhasmana (Himalayan Univ), Dr. U S Rawat (Sri Dev Suman Univ), Dr. H S Dhami (Medical Univ), Dr. Piyush Kant Dikshit, Prof. P C Dhyani (Shri Guru Ram Rai Univ), Dr. Anurag Aggarwal, Dr. B M Harbola to name a few. The convocation attires were designed by taking inspirations from the elements of Garhwal, Kumaon and Jaunsar Bawar. The three categories of the attires are for the different Dignitaries, Faculty and Students. The elements of inspiration are the state flower, the Brahamkamal, state bird Monal, Colours of the Garhwal Regiment, Aipan – the lotus motif from Saraswati Chowki, Rhododendron and pleating from the traditional garments of Jaunsar. The silhouettes of the convocation attires are inspired from the Sadri (half jacket), Cap and Patka of Uttarakhand. The endeavor of the students of the Department of Fashion Design was very well appreciated by the August gathering.
