Legal Aid Committee (LAC) successfully organised week-long event covering all aspects of legal services, assistance, and aid under the guidance of Faculty Coordinators Ms. Avantika Chaudhary and Ms. Anupama S Thakur with every lasting support and encouragement from Dr. Shalini Bahuguna Bachheti, Head of the Department, SOL, GEHU. A legal aid desk was set up for the week at the main gate of the campus. The first two days were dedicated to legal outreach and social awareness program for which the committee members and volunteers went door to door at various locations namely ISBT road, Transport Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Turner Road, Chandrabani Chowk. LAC organised a workshop and a competition on RTI Act and drafting of RTI application. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Kaushal Pandey, internal expert on RTI and esteemed advocate Mr. Kamal Virmani. Mr. Kaushal discussed the RTI act with students in veritable details while Mr. Virmani discussed what to expect in practical usage of the act. Students participated in large numbers, and 25 best RTI applications shall be filed and will be followed by LAC members. LAC with 30 students in 3 teams visited village Akhandwali Bhilang and organised legal aid camp to provide assistance with basic documentation. One team interacted with young children in government school. LAC members and volunteers conducted a workshop on child rights and how to differentiate between good and bad touch. Students also talked about various challenges they overcome everyday to pursue education. At the end of the week, LAC pledges to ensure that all the undertaken projects are successfully culminated by the last quarter of the session.
