It was a moment of pride for the Department of Fashion Design, GEHU today, 16th October 2018 as exclusive brand of the Department was launched by the Chief Guest, Mr. Sanjeev Chopra, Additional Chief Secretary, West Bengal. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Guest of Honour, Mr. Avinash Joshi, Director UTBM Ltd. and Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, GEHU Prof. Dr. Sanjay Jasola. Ms. Darshna R D, Permaculturist, MBA and Bachelors in Foreign Trade also marked her presence. Through her initiative the department could work on the first order for Swayam. The first consignment was sealed by the Chief Guest for the day. The credence that ‘Nature has No Wastage’ gave birth to the concept of the developing elegant folders designed and manufactured under the brand Swayam by the Department of Fashion Design, GEHU. The initiative is wedlock between the concept of sustainability (social, environmental and economic) and high end design which is handcrafted by the women who are empowered to pursue a life of financial independence. Vocational training is imparted by the Department of Fashion Design to them on a no cost basis as part of Corporate Social Responsibility.
